Bhagawan Dhanwantari
charak samhita short intro
Literature in Ayurveda Ayurveda has evolved in last so many years of civilized life. Charak, Sushrut and Vagbhat are the sages, expounders known as Brihattrayee (Trio of majors). There is other three Madhav Nidan, Shrangdhar and Yoga Ratnakar known as Laghutrayee (Trio of minors). Besides these, dependable literature is developed in lineage. This literature expounds over rules of life, causes of diseases, pathology, symptomatology, diagnosis and treatment. We live our life as per training by our parents and mentors of life. Guru teaches his disciple with intricacies of the knowledge and skills. Similarly, all sages with intention to forward knowledge to future generations are open. Limitation factor is that Sanskrit language is more foreign than actual foreign languages because of disuse. We easily agree that all food we eat, or we accept in life is tested after receiving the information from trusted source. We use foreign products when we receive from authentic provider. Fruits and vegetables we use in our life are from trusted information. Likewise, samhitas like Sushrut Samhita, Charak Samhita, etc are the trusted sources of Ayurvedic knowledge. How can we say that thousands of combinations of drugs written in the samhitas are without experience? Similarly, every word is dependable. Their intention was pure and they were compiling the knowledge for interest of future generations. They were beyond lust and greed. That knowledge is still very much live and practical. Observations and guidelines given by them are valuable even today with modern technology. The gap in understanding arises because we do not understand Sanskrit well and sometimes erroneous translations lead to confusion. We must learn Sanskrit and read Ayurveda from the original texts. Thank you for reading!
